CTTC is proud to partner with Myeloma Canada to co-fund one grant within the 2025 Aldo Del Col Research Grant competition. This award competition honours the legacy of Aldo Del Col, who was a co-founder of Myeloma Canada, and aims to fund innovative research in myeloma treatment and clinical care.

CTTC has committed to co-fund one (1) research grant up to $150,000 CAD for an innovative project that aims to advance the science or improve the outcome, efficacy, and/or safety of academic cellular therapies for multiple myeloma in Canada

Award amount: $75,000 - 150,000 CAD
Grant term: One or two years
Deadline: June 6, 2025

CTTC's 2024 New Investigator Award Winner is Dr. Meera Rayar!

CTTC is pleased to announce CTTC's New Investigator Award Winner, Dr. Meera Rayar for the study "Health Outcomes and Health Utilization among Survivors of Pediatric Hematopoietic Transplantation for Non-Malignant Diseases".

CTTC is pleased to announce that the 'New Investigator Award' competition is open for 2024!  If you are a researcher within 5 years of your first faculty appointment, or know someone that might be interested, please take note of the information and deadlines for this competition.  The Peer Review Committee, chaired by Dr. Anargyros Xenocostas, is eager to receive your applications!

Topics that will advance Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation and/or Cellular Therapies (HCT/CT) are sought. The primary aim of the grant program is to promote pilot and/or feasibility studies. One (1) award of $40,000 CAD will be granted to the most promising application.

Applications for the CTTC New Investigator Award must be received by:
• Letter of Intent (LOI) – November 1, 2024
• Full application – January 20, 2025

The CTTC Innovation Awards are meant to support projects to advance Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and/or Cellular Therapeutics (HSCT/CT).  

We are pleased to announce an additional awardee for the 2023 allied health competition, alongside Zoe Evans and Kelly Antes (with co-investigator Dr. Samantha Mayo), whose project on peer support for AYA was announced in December 2023. The additional allied health innovation award of $25,000 CAD was recently granted to:

JULIANA RODEN

For the project entitled: Improving clinical care of Canadian BMT recipients using an innovative mobile health
care application to detect signs of chronic graft vs host disease (cGVHD)

Juliana is a nurse practitioner with the BC Children's Hospital in Vancouver, British Columbia. Juliana built upon the CTTC Innovation Award amount of $25,000 to secure additional funding from two separate sources in order to completely fund the ambitious and important $60,000 project. Please join us in congratulating Juliana on this accomplishment! 	Kelly Antes is a Social Worker at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in the Allogeneic Blood and Marrow Transplant Program in Toronto, Ontario.

Do you know an outstanding young investigator that should be recognized for their work in clinical oncology? Applications are being accepted now by our partner Current Oncology for the 2022 Young Investigator Award.

The prize includes 2,000 Swiss Francs and one free publication in CO! Deadline: December 31, 2022

Applications are also being accepted for the 2023 Travel Award which provides financial support for two postdoctoral fellows, research fellows or oncology staff in their first 3 years of practice to attend an international conference in the field of clinical oncology practice, to be held in 2023, to deliver a presentation, present a poster, or both. Winners will each receive the prize outlined below.

The prize includes 500 Swiss Francs! The deadline for applications is 28 February 2023.

On behalf of the grant committee chaired by Dr. Anargyros Xenocostas, we are proud to announce that the winner of this year's Hans Messner New Investigator Award is Dr. Kareem Jamani who will study “Quality of Life (QoL) of Survivors Late after Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant” to measure the QoL of patients who are more than 2 years after transplant. The main aim is to discover why some patients experience inferior QoL compared to others. Factors to be analyzed include other medical conditions, the presence of GvHD, and age at transplant, utilizing siblings as controls. Identified factors may lead to implementation of preventative programs in the future. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Jamani on this achievement!

The Hans Messner New Investigator Award provides funds for eligible CTTC members to undertake research on topics that will have a relevance to blood and marrow transplantation and other cell therapies. The primary aim of the grant program is to promote pilot and/or feasibility studies. The grant is for a maximum of CAD $40,000 depending on the nature and budget of the project. The grant is offered in 2022 to honour Dr. Hans Messner and his contributions to the blood and marrow transplant community.

Applications for the Hans Messner New Investigator Award must be received by June 30, 2022.

After receiving a satisfactory response to the conditions set forth by the review committee for a single combined Innovation award, we are pleased to announce that a special 2021 CTTC Innovation Award has been presented to Dr. Ivan Pasic for the study, “Impact of Frailty on Outcomes of Allogeneic Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation: A Multi-Centre Pan-Canadian Collaborative Study.”

Through this funding, multiple Canadian centres will be invited to join Dr. Pasic to determine if a number of measures of frailty and function in patients prior to treatment can predict outcomes post-transplant and potentially allow for interventions to improve recipient selection and clinical outcomes.

This past spring, the CTTC was pleased to honour the legacy of Dr. Hans Messner again by holding the 2021 Hans Messner New Investigator Award competition. This award provides funds for eligible individuals to undertake research on topics with relevance to blood and marrow transplantation. On behalf of the grant committee chaired by Dr. Anargyros Xenocostas, we are proud to announce that the winner of this year's Hans Messner New Investigator Award is Dr. Kevin Hay who will study “Cell-Free DNA: A New Biomarker in CAR-T Cell Therapy” to look for tumor-cell derived DNA in blood samples of patients.  The results of this study will aid clinicians in monitoring the need for, and the response after, CAR-T cell therapy.
