Hans Messner Lectureship

The Hans Messner Lectureship Award is presented to a lecturer whose research and/or practice has advanced clinical practice in the field of hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) and/or other cell therapies (CT). The 2026 Hans Messner Lectureship has been awarded to Dr. Christopher Bredeson!

Dr. Christopher Bredeson is the head of Malignant Hematology and TCT Program Medical Director at The Ottawa Hospital. Dr. Bredeson received his medical degree from the University of Ottawa. His post-doctorate training included an internship and residency in internal medicine, as well as a residency in clinical hematology and a fellowship in the Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant Program at the University of British Columbia. He holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology. He is a past president of CTTC, and a past president of the American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy. Dr. Bredeson will be presenting his keynote presentation at the 2026 Annual Conference during Symposium 2 on May 1 at 8:45am.

Till and McCulloch Lectureship

The Till & McCulloch Lectureship Award is presented to a lecturer whose research and/or practice has advanced basic science in HCT/CT. The 2026 Till & McCulloch Lectureship has been awarded to Dr. Kirk Schultz!

Dr. Kirk Schultz is a Professor or Pediatrics at the University of British Columbia and BC Children’s Hospital. Dr. Schultz is a Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist focused on new therapies and chronic GvHD in Blood and Marrow Transplantation (BMT) and immune therapy of blood cancers with 267 peer-reviewed papers. Dr. Schultz is a past recipient of the CIHR/Wyeth Clinical Research Chair in Transplantation, past chair of the Pediatric BMT Consortium, and past President of CTTC. He is the founder of the Applied Biomarker in Late Effects (ABLE) pediatric and adult cGvHD biomarker network, and the Westhafen Intercontinental Group, the international pediatric BMT leadership group. Dr. Schultz will be presenting "Using Biomarkers to Improve HSCT By Regenerating Immune Tolerance and Preventing Chronic Graft-versus-Host Disease" during the 2026 Annaul Conference during Symposium 7 on Saturday, May 2 at 8:45am.

CTTC is holding its 2025 Annual Conference in collaboration with the WMDA's IDRC meeting, hosted by Hema-Quebec, in Quebec City, May 19-22, 2025. There will be several collaborative working committee meetings, including the usual Cell Therapy 101 session, on the two pre-conference days, May 19-20, followed by two days of plenary sessions, lectureship awards, and poster/oral abstract presentations . The social event will be held at Le Musée de la civilisation.

Hans Messner Lectureship

This award is presented to a lecturer whose research and/or practice has advanced clinical practice in the field of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) and/or other cell therapies (CT).

Dr. Bronwen Shaw, MD, PhD is the Chief Scientific Director of the CIBMTR at the Medical College of Wisconsin and a professor of Medicine practicing as an adult BMT/CT physician. She has focused much of her research career on understanding the impact of donor factors on patient outcomes and contributing to donor selection algorithms. Currently she is working on exploring the efficacy and safety of strategies to expand access to transplant through the use of mismatched unrelated donors, using novel strategies, so far with very encouraging results

Till and McCulloch Lectureship

This award is presented to a lecturer whose research and/or practice has advanced basic science in HSCT/CT.

Dr. Michel Sadelain, MD, PhD, is the Director of the Center for Cell Engineering and the incumbent of the Stephen and Barbara Friedman Chair at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He is a Member of the Immunology Program and the Department of Medicine.

Dr. Sadelain’s research focuses on human cell engineering and cell therapy to treat cancer and hereditary blood disorders. His laboratory has made several seminal contributions to the field of chimeric antigen receptors (CARs), from their conceptualization and optimization to their clinical translation for cancer immunotherapy.

Dr. Stewart has been practicing Medical Oncology at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary since July 1994 where he is a member of the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program, Hematology and Breast Tumor Groups. Since 2017, he has held the position of Senior Medical Director of the Cancer Strategic Clinical Network for Alberta Health Services.

Dr. Douglas Stewart will be speaking on Lessons Learned from Lymphoma Patients During a Career in Stem Cell Transplantation during Symposium 1 at the 2023 annual conference on Thursday, June 1st at 8:45am. Register for the annual conference HERE.

The Tim & McCulloch Lectureship has been awarded to Dr. Crystal Mackall!

Dr. Mackall is the Ernest and Amelia Gallo Family Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine at Stanford University, Founding Director of the Stanford Center for Cancer Cell Therapy, and Director of the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy @ Stanford.

SUBMISSIONS OPEN FROM OCTOBER 28, 2022 - FEBRUARY 1, 2023.

Abstracts are required to be submitted in one of the following categories:

• Research: basic/translational
• Clinical: clinical trials/observations
• Clinical: laboratory/quality
• Clinical: pharmacy, nursing, other transplant support

Abstracts may address evaluative studies, research-in-progress or descriptive reports, and are invited on a broad range of HSCT-related topics, including basic, translational and/or clinical research and issues in clinical practice, including but not limited to team development, education, psychosocial issues and novel care delivery approaches. All abstracts will be reviewed for scientific merit using predetermined criteria and accepted abstracts will be printed in the final program that will be distributed electronically and on-site at the conference. The top abstracts in each category will be invited to present their findings at the meeting.

Please note that non-HSCT related abstracts will not be invited for presentation.
